In 2019, CCSV purchased the abandoned Jefferson Elementary School in Jarratt, Va., and began renovating the 25,000-square-foot building. Named the Millard and Florence Stith Community Center after two respected members of our community, the property is now the base of CCSV operations and all our programs and services. It is a gathering place for the community, providing many resources and recreational options.
Recreational Facilities
The 7.5-acre grounds of the Community Center offer a basketball court, tennis/pickleball court, 0.3-mile mindfulness walking trail, and two gazebos — all available for community use at no cost.
Community Spaces and Meeting Rooms
Renovated classrooms within the Community Center are available to the community as meeting/conference rooms (tables and chairs are provided) and as rental space for community services and small business start-ups. Public internet access also is available throughout the facility.
Shelter for Inclement Weather
The Community Center is used as a shelter both during and after inclement weather (e.g., thunderstorms, tornadoes, and hurricanes). It also is used by the community as a cooling space during times of extreme heat and a warming space during periods of extreme cold. Watch for up-to-date weather-related information on CCSV’s Facebook page.
Early Childhood Education Center
Half of the Community Center is being renovated to create a 120-seat early childhood education center for children ages 6 weeks through 5 years — something both local families and employers have identified as an urgent community need. CCSV is working with national early childhood education experts to design and build the center. Groundbreaking for construction will happen in fall 2025, and the center is expected to open in early 2027.
Future Plans
Following are other resources we hope to create at the Community Center.
• Classrooms for computers training
• Library
• Cafeteria
• Multipurpose rooms
Architectural plans for the renovation of the building, prepared by Maginniss+Del Ninno Architects of Alexandria, Va., were completed in October 2025 and shared with the community. (See below.) One wing of the building will house the early childhood education center, while the various community spaces will reside in the other wing. Fundraising for the construction phase of this project is ongoing.
